Amakhala Game Reserve, South Africa Plan a trip

Amakhala Game Reserve is a wildlife reserve located in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa. Consisting of over 7,500 hectares of land, it’s home to some breathtaking views and an incredible selection of wildlife. You can also take some comfort in the fact that the reserve has been noted to be malaria-free.

The reserve is an ideal place to stay if you hope to experience a top-notch safari experience. Here you can experience early morning and sun-downer game drives. Wildlife roam freely around the reserve, but the rangers are experts at tracking them down. The reserve is home to all of the ‘big 5’, but you may also catch a glimpse of more shy species such as the bat-eared fox or hyena, or cheetah.

Drives can be taken during the daytime or in evenings, depending on the wildlife you’re hoping to see. There are also opportunities for bush walks, river cruises and even bird watching.

If you’re looking to seek out a bit of culture on your trip, you may also choose to visit the bushman burial ground which is considered prehistoric. Here, you’ll discover ancient dinosaur fossils. Or, for something a little more laid-back, a trip along the Bushman’s River will take you on a steady journey down to the sea, where you’ll manage to catch a glimpse of the Cape beaches.

It’s recommended that you spend at least three nights at the reserve to make the most of your visit, before moving on. This will give you a chance to spot all the wildlife around the reserve, as well as have the chance to unwind and perhaps enjoy one of the onsite spa days.

If you don’t have much time to spare though, you may choose to visit the Amakhala Game Reserve for one day and experience a six-hour safari trip, which also includes a welcome drink, river cruise and a spot of lunch. You won’t want to pass up this opportunity if you’re nearby!
