Flic en Flac, Mauritius Plan a trip

Most likely originating from the Dutch phrase which means ‘large flat land’, Flic en Flac is a small-scale seaside town located in the district of Rivière Noire in Mauritius. Noted for its white sandy beach which stretches as far as the eye can see, this area is perfect if you’re hoping to get away from it all. The town was a tiny fishing village around 200 years ago, but it has since developed into a relaxed holiday resort which is a firm favourite with the Mauritian people.

The eight-kilometre-long beach is certainly what Flic en Flac is best known for. Here you can enjoy a peaceful afternoon sunbathing, take a stroll along the white sands or even try your hand at some water sports. There are little booths dotted around if you fancy a picnic and, on weekends, live musicians and dancers perform for sunbathers! The safest spot for swimming and activities is within the lagoon; however just beyond this section you’ll find some fantastic diving spots, where the shallow waters turn deep.

Just 10 minutes’ drive away from the centre of town is the Tamarina Golf Club, where you can enjoy a round of golf amid stunning mountain and bay views. Medine Sugar Estate is also just a short drive away. During the sugar-cutting season, there are guided tours around the distillery where you can find out more about the process.

Flic en Flac is great for those looking for a quiet, laid-back break with a touch of evening buzz.
