It’s your honeymoon, so it’s got to be seriously special. But with all the world to choose from, how do you choose the perfect honeymoon destination? Our travel experts recommend looking in Asia, where you can find romance, abundant natural beauty, unforgettable wildlife encounters, and rich culture and history. And of course, amazing food.

Here’s our guide to 6 of the best honeymoon destinations in Asia:

Langkawi, Malaysia

The tropical island of Langkawi offers a retreat from the world, in simply stunning surroundings. Newlyweds will love the wide sandy beaches, free-flowing cocktails, warm waters and high-end beachfront accommodation.

But this is no ordinary place, as Langkawi has its unique attractions too. This includes the Langkawi Skycab cable car, lifting you high above the canopy of the ancient rainforest to the peak of Gunung
Machincang mountain. And then there’s the wildlife – Langkawi is home to over 200 bird species, including unusual greater racket-tailed drongos and oriental pied hornbills with their multi-coloured eyes.

Koh Lanta, Thailand

Koh Lanta is regularly described as one of Thailand’s most beautiful islands. It is located off the coast of Krabi and is home to around a dozen beaches, each one with its own beauty and charm. Some of the beaches that straddle Koh Lanta’s long coastline are considered among the finest in Thailand.

There are a huge number of impossibly romantic spots in Cambodia, along with fascinating historical treasures and lively cities to explore. Our favourites are lively Siem Reap and the ancient temples of
Angkor (including the world-famous Angkor Wat), and bustling capital city Phnom Penh. But for a more idyllic experience, we’d recommend visiting the wonderfully rural Kirirom National Park, the spectacular beaches of Sihanoukville and the island paradise of Koh Rong.

If you find it hard to narrow it down to just one destination, why not plan a Cambodia tour? This gives you a chance to see all the highlights and really get under the skin of this magical country.

Galle, Sri Lanka

The city of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka is the perfect mix of historic architecture, atmospheric old streets (which are car-free) and beautiful beaches. Honeymooners will love exploring Galle Fort, the UNESCO-listed old Dutch quarter. It’s one of the best-preserved colonial townscapes in the country, and a fascinating mix of Portuguese, Dutch and British architectural styles. Galle is also famous for its excellent seafood, surfing beaches and rose-tinted sunsets.

El Nido, the Philippines

You could go anywhere in the Philippines and have an unforgettable (and extremely photogenic) honeymoon, but El Nido has the edge. It’s a true island paradise in the north of the barely populated Palawan Island. Here you’ll find sun-kissed white sand beaches, brilliant turquoise waters, startlingly white limestone cliffs and colourful coral reefs. You can spend blissful days island-hopping, cliff hiking, scuba diving or simply lounging on some of the best beaches you’ve ever see in your life

If you’re looking for somewhere quiet and unspoilt, Laos is the ideal choice. This small, often overlooked country isn’t on the radar for many honeymooners, so you’ll have the chance to escape the crowds and the usual tourist traps. You can discover its delights all to yourselves.

Destinations to pop on your itinerary include the quaint, French-influenced riverside town of Luang Prabang, a UNESCO world heritage site known for its golden Buddhist temples. You might also want to visit adventurous Huay Xai for eco-tourism experiences in the jungle, or Si Phan Don (the ‘Four Thousand Islands’) in the south of Laos for waterfall-chasing, kayaking and dolphin-spotting.
