Travel planning is what we live for here at Blank Canvas. But the recent Covid-19 pandemic has sadly put everyone’s holiday plans on hold. We’re all still dreaming of our next getaway, and we’re sure you are too.

But with fingers, toes and everything else crossed, we should hopefully be able to venture abroad soon.

This means you can dust off your half-finished travel plans and start actually booking things – hopefully with our travel experts here at Blank Canvas. It’s such an exciting time, and many people are hoping to go seriously big on their travel plans in 2021 and 2022 to make up for lost time.

But what should you know about overseas holiday planning in the age of coronavirus? We’ve put together some tips that should help…

Always check for a full Covid refund policy before booking

One thing we’ve all become familiar with over the last year is uncertainty. Plans can change overnight, and you never know quite what to expect. You may fall ill, or new restrictions for the UK or overseas destinations may come into effect with very short notice.

This makes it absolutely essential to only use a reputable travel agent offering a full refund for trips cancelled due to Covid. Take a look here for our no questions asked Covid refund policy.

Stay informed

It’s sometimes been difficult to get the right information at the right time during the pandemic. When planning or preparing for a trip, make sure you keep a close eye on the Government website. The World Health Organisation (WHO) and Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) can also be good sources of updated, trustworthy information.

Check your travel insurance

It’s crucial to check what you are and aren’t covered for under your current travel insurance policy. Check the small print and get in touch with your provider if you have any questions, and shop carefully when taking out a new policy.

Know your travel rights

What happens if you catch COVID or your trip is cancelled? You need to know where you stand from a legal and financial point of view. The MoneySavingExpert site is an excellent source of reliable, regularly updated information on your travel rights during the coronavirus crisis. It covers everything from refunds and travel insurance, including what happens if new restrictions are brought in.

Manage your expectations – and your packing

Your holiday may be a little different than you’re used to. You may need to wear a face mask or covering in public areas (unless exempt) and stick to social distancing rules. Be prepared by doing a little research into the rules at your chosen hotel, resort or destination. This can help with your packing too – remember that plenty of hand sanitiser will be essential.

Planning a multi-destination trip? Speak to an expert

For the time being, it could be simpler to stick to one destination for your upcoming holiday – as there will only be one set of Covid-related rules to worry about. But this doesn’t mean that amazing multi-destination adventures are out of the question.

If you’re planning the trip of a lifetime, speak to one of our travel experts. We’ll give you all the advice and information you need on COVID restrictions and other practicalities, and put together a bespoke itinerary just for you.
