Our bespoke, luxury Mauritius holidays are definitely one of the most popular enquiries we receive, and with very good reason. Mauritius is one of the jewels of the Indian Ocean, rivalling both the Seychelles and The Maldives for golden beaches, warm, inviting crystal-clear seas and a blazing hot sun overhanging all. The island offers blue lagoons and is ideal for snorkelling, scuba diving and water sports. However, whereas The Maldives is primarily a tropical beach destination (and a stunning one to boot), Mauritius offers the intrepid explorer so much more than a beach holiday.

Unique Mauritius

The interior of this beautiful country contains wild rainforests, mountains, waterfalls and a huge amount of tropical wildlife, including the Pteropus, more commonly known as the flying fox. Aside from the varied flora and fauna, the island is also home to over a million, culturally diverse people who can trace their lineage back to different areas of the world, including parts of Africa, Portugal, France and Britain. It is this mix of heritage and customs that gives the island such a unique feel, and the festivals and special events held on the island are a testament to the unique spirit of Mauritius. It is a combination of these factors that make our luxury Mauritius holidays so popular as there is always something new to experience.

The seasons of Mauritius

But a common question we are often asked about our luxury Mauritius holidays is whether there is much of a difference in seasons in terms of weather and prices. Mauritius sits in the southern hemisphere, so its‘ winter season’ coincides with the European summer season. This makes their summer season months of December and January the busiest in terms of tourists, as this is when the island sees its highest temperatures before the ‘wet’ season (February-April). June to September are considered Mauritius’s ‘off-season’, and therefore less busy than the winter months. But let’s get one thing out of the way, this isn’t London where the average temperature in January is 5 degrees, with the average temperature in July 19 degrees. In Mauritius, daytime temperatures average an extremely pleasant 23 degrees, only 5 degrees lower than their peak months. It is this near year-round sun that makes our luxury Mauritius holidays so popular!

So, now that we know that you can still expect reasonable temperatures on our off-season luxury Mauritius holidays, what other advantages are there to booking a holiday in Mauritius from June through to September?

6 Reasons to book our luxury Mauritius holidays in the off-season

1. Less expensive

One of the main benefits of booking one of our off-season luxury Mauritius holidays is accommodation is less expensive, and activities such as watersports, snorkelling trips and scuba diving can be cheaper too.

2. Less rainfall

Although not guaranteed, the off-season months are generally drier than December and January, and certainly drier than the traditional ‘wet season’ of February to April. This makes the off-season ideal for exploring the island.

3. Less heat and humidity

Whilst the off-season temperatures of Mauritius are still warm, they are not usually hot and humid. So if hiking the many stunningly beautiful trails dotted across the island is right up your street, the off-season is the perfect time to do it.

4. Fewer crowds

Mauritius sees the heaviest tourism and visitors in its summer months, so if you prefer a little more peace and quiet when chilling on the beach or visiting the local attractions then the off-season should definitely be something to consider.

5. Better water sports

If you get your kicks from windsurfing or kite surfing in paradise, then our off-season luxury Mauritius holidays will offer you the perfect opportunity! It is generally the case that July and August are the best times to go windsurfing in Mauritius.

6. More culture

As a country that relies heavily on tourism, the heart and soul of the island can get a little lost during the busy winter months as everything is geared towards the crowds. Whereas, the off-season is a great time to experience Mauritius as the locals do!
