Vietnam is renowned for its beautiful beaches, secluded coves and crystal-clear waters. We’re talking mesmerisingly pretty, and often completely unspoilt.

Across 2,000 miles of Vietnamese coastline, you’ll find wonder after wonder. Head far enough away from the tourist trail and you’ll step out onto coconut palm-fringed sands with not a single soul in sight.

There are so many to choose from, but let’s explore the top five most beautiful beaches in Vietnam

  1. Bai Khem Beach, Phu Quoc Island

A regular feature on lists of the world’s best beaches, ‘Cream Beach’ on Phu Quoc Island boasts long, white, smooth sands and a backdrop of lush primeval jungle. This tourist hotspot may not be the quietest beach in Vietnam, especially in peak season. But it is always serenely beautiful, and the perfect spot for swimming, snorkelling or soothing strolls along the gentle arc-shaped waterline.

While you’re on Phu Quoc Island, it’s well worth a trip Sao Beach on the south of the island. For a quieter experience, North Long Beach is the one for you.

  1. Ho Coc Beach, Ho Coc

Head a little way out of Ho Chi Minh City and you’ll discover a hidden gem of a beach – Ho Coc. It nestles on the picturesque east coast of Vietnam, with a curving bay and a whole five kilometres of gorgeous white sand dunes.  Once you’ve finished sunbathing and swimming, make sure you sample the fresh, delicious treats on offer at the local seafood shacks.

  1. Bai Chay, Ha Long Bay

First time in Vietnam? No visit would be complete without a trip to the one-of-a-kind Ha Long Bay, the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site. You just have to see it, even if only once. It’s a scene of mysterious ethereal beauty, a turquoise bay dotted with islands and huge limestone outcroppings – and it looks particularly magical at sunset.

For the best seats in the house, head to the gently sloping sands of Bai Chay, a man-made beach surrounded by restaurants and tourist attractions. If it’s a little crowded for your liking, hop on a boat to Ti Top Island in the middle of the bay. It has its own beach and is a fabulous spot to enjoy this unique part of the world.

  1. Dat Doc Beach, Con Dao

By far the best beach on the spectacular Con Dao archipelago is Dat Doc. This is a wonderfully quiet, peaceful and often secluded beach, with blue waters and lush green mountains as far as the eye can see.

One of the best ways to spend time here is lying on the soft sands listening to the gentle lapping of the waves, gazing at the impossible blue of the sky. Although of course, Con Dao is also famous for its diverse marine life and colourful coral reefs, so you can also don your snorkel gear and hit the water.

  1. Dai Lanh, Hon Ghom Peninsula

To really get away from it all, head to the Hon Ghom peninsula. Those who know the area well love its empty, endless beaches – including Dai Lanh. This small beach lies next to a tiny fishing hamlet, nestling between mountains on one side and the turquoise waters of the South China sea on the other. It feels like another world, and you’re almost guaranteed to get it all to yourself.
