A honeymoon in Mauritius is many newlyweds’ dream destination. This idyllic Indian Ocean island is staggeringly pretty, with pure white sands and crystal-clear azure waters. It’s a romantic tropical paradise, with lush greenery and breathtaking sunsets.
There’s plenty to see and do in Mauritius too. Here’s our guide to the ten must-do activities to
include in your bespoke honeymoon in Mauritius itinerary…
1. Bathe in a magnificent waterfall
Head into the forests of the Riviere Noire District and you’ll discover the beautiful Chamarel Waterfall, formed by the St Denis River. The tumbling waters are a joy to admire, but you can also take a refreshing dip in the shallow pool below.
2. Admire the French architecture in Port Louis
No Mauritian honeymoon would be complete without an extended stay in the capital city. There are plenty of museums, markets and other cultural treasures to discover in Port Louis, but one of the best activities is simply strolling the streets admiring the city’s pretty French architecture.
3. Dine on the Caudan waterfront
While you’re in Port Louis, swing by the Caudan waterfront for a fantastic choice of places to dine and shop.
4. Go horse riding at Domaine de l’Etoile
On the eastern part of the island, you’ll find the beautiful wide open landscapes of the Domaine de l’Etoile natural park. This is the perfect place for a romantic horse ride for two, a gentle, relaxing way to explore the park’s forests, valleys and rivers. Or if you’re feeling more adventurous while on your honeymoon in Mauritius, you can try quad biking and ziplining here too.
5. Kayak at Ile d’Ambre Island
The best way to arrive at the most famous islet off Mauritius is by kayak, exploring d’Ambre Island’s sparkling waters, exotic marine life and unspoilt beaches. It’s the perfect day trip for sporty couples.
6. Glamping at Ile Aux Cerfs Beach
Famed for its white beaches and turquoise lagoon, Ile Aux Cerfs is described as “a tiny paradise island” that’s a stone’s throw off the east coast of Mauritius. For a truly memorable honeymoon in Mauritius experience, consider glamping in a semi-transparent eco dome on Ile Aux Cerfs, known as the Bubble Lodge.
7. Discover the island’s colourful tropical marine life
You can’t come to Mauritius and not see some of its extraordinary marine life. There are lots of ways to do it, from glass-bottomed boat tours and underwater sea walks to diving excursions.
8. Stroll around the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanic Gardens
Looking for a way to spend a relaxing afternoon? Take a hand-in-hand stroll around the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanic Garden, also known as the Pamplemousses Botanic Garden, not far from Port Louis. It’s the oldest botanical garden in the Southern Hemisphere and is home to an enormous variety of tropical plants. Take a guided tour and learn all about the famous baobabs, giant water lilies and the spice gardens.
9. Dive holding hands in the Grand Bay
For a truly romantic experience, head to Grand Bay in the north of the island and dive amongst the whales and dolphins with your partner. Grand Baie is considered the perfect destination for open water divers.
10. Visit the Grand Bassin lake
Also known as Ganga Talao, this tranquil lake is one of the most famous attractions on the island. It’s considered to be the most sacred Hindu place on Mauritius and is home to temples, statues, sculptures and other ornate pieces of art.
