Gondwana Canyon Lodge, Fish River Canyon

Introduction

Canyon Lodge is the perfect place to start your adventure at the Fish River Canyon.

It sits in the 520-square-kilometre Gondwana Canyon Park and isn’t too far from the main viewpoint. Use this place as a base to see one of the world’s biggest canyons.

The lodge is slightly hidden within the granite hilltop and massive boulders; this gives it an exclusive and mysterious vibe that carries through to the inside.

Facilities

The entire lodge has been made from natural materials like stone, and wooden thatch for the roof. This gives it a cool earthy feel, but also means there isn’t much in the way of natural sunlight.

Dotted around the lodge are old farming tools harking back to the farmhouse days, giving the place a great sense of nostalgia.

There are 25 thatched natural stone and wooden bungalows hidden between the boulders. All have air conditioning and mosquito nets, so you’ll be quite comfortable.

Go out and explore the local area by day, then come back and relax on the terrace or cool off in the pool in the evening. You’ll find it hard to beat the sunset here, so make sure you’re back for that.

The restaurant here serves a range of dishes to suit all tastes. Try some of the local dishes while you’re here – you might not get this chance again.
