Sossus Dune Lodge, Sossusvlei

Excellent - £££

Introduction

The Sossus Dune Lodge is in Sesriem; the gateway to the famous orange dunes of Sossusvlei.

It’s so close to the dunes, guests can reach them before sunrise and stay after sunset without worrying about getting back in time for dinner. This means having incredible views of the sun breaching the horizon; an experience that cannot be rivalled.

The Sossus Dune Lodge has 25 spacious chalets which are well spread out, so guests can enjoy the silence that echoes through the desert.

The chalets on the left of the main area have spectacular views of the dunes and those on the right look to the mountains and the Sesriem Canyon. The only difficult decision will be which one to choose!

These chalets are all built using wooden frames and thatched roofs, and are decorated with warm brown and burnt-orange tones. They are all linked using wooden walkways, but you still have a lot of privacy.

Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom, a lounge area, and a large veranda where you can look out over the Namib Desert.

Facilities

The main area of the hotel has a restaurant, lounge, bar and a sunset deck.

However, the most appealing thing about this place is the pool. It’s a great place to relax and cool off after a long day of sightseeing – especially if you’ve been hiking through the canyons and the hot, dusty sand.

You can even see the dunes from the pool, as you allow the aches of the day to be soothed away by the cool water.
