Hallmark House, Johannesburg

Mid-range - ££

Introduction

Hallmark House is one of the newest hotels in the rejuvenated and trendy Maboneng precinct of Johannesburg. It’s been meticulously designed to create an incredible living space, with 46 rooms available for visitors; trust us you won’t be disappointed.

The hotel isn’t too far from the major sites in Johannesburg. It’s just a short walk from the Museum of African Design, and you can easily get to some of the main galleries, museums and historic sites. Make sure you visit the Mandela House Museum and Nelson Mandela Square during your stay. You should also see the Apartheid Museum; it’s an incredible place to learn about Johannesburg’s history.

The rooms here are full of local art and decorated in a slightly minimalist style. The muted colours and statement walls leave a long-lasting impression of modernity on visitors; one that you’ll take with you when you leave. The rooms are also really comfortable and large. It’s great to feel like you have space here, as in the city things can start to feel a little cramped.

Facilities

The Hallmark House has been created in a layered manner. On the bottom floor there’s a jazz bar and coffee shop, on the next few floors there’s the hotel, private apartments and penthouses, and on the top floor there’s a fantastic restaurant and bar with incredible views of the district.

Why We Love It

Hallmark House is a fantastic place to unwind and gives visitors the chance to meet local people, as they live in the building too. This means you’re much more likely to have an authentic South African experience, so make the most of it.
