Introduction

The Lake St Lucia Lodge sits in the heart of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The park is an incredible World Heritage Site with many types of flora and fauna living in a variety of diverse habitats. There are around 300,000 hectares to explore including lakes, islands, grasslands, wetlands, mangroves, beaches and reefs. It’s hard to know where to start!

Use the Lake St Lucia Lodge as a base for exploring Lake St Lucia and the area of outstanding natural beauty. From Nile crocodiles to black rhinos and elephants, who knows what you might discover during your stay!

The Lake St Lucia Lodge is made up of several simple but comfortable cottages and bungalows on the edge of the St Lucia Estuary. They all have the basic amenities you’d expect from a hotel and are decorated in a simple but cosy style. They are also all self-catering, so you need to be prepared to make your own food or find somewhere else to eat.

Facilities

The lodge may not be as luxurious as some of the other hotels in the South African wilderness, but you’re well off the usual tourist trail. These units aren’t far from the main street of St Lucia village, so you can get to pubs, restaurants and shops pretty quickly.

The street is well-lit, so it’s relatively safe to walk around at night. But watch out for the unlit open park areas, which are left undeveloped and natural for leopards and hippos to roam in!

Why We Love It

Lake St Lucia Lodge provides a comfortable and welcoming shelter in the heart of one of South Africa’s most diverse areas. It’s a great base for exploring what these amazing wetlands have to offer.
