Hin Boun, Laos Plan a trip
Looking to get away from it all and surround yourself with nature? Hin Boun is a great destination to escape the rush of everyday life. Situated in the Khammouane Province of central Laos, you’ll find yourself at the heart of an impressive nature reserve. This spot is also a useful base for visiting surrounding areas.
If you love exploring the great outdoors, then Hin Boun is definitely the place to go. It’s known for being small and laid-back, with many choosing this destination for its easy access to the Kong Lor Cave and Kong Lor River – which need to be ticked off your bucket list if you consider yourself a serious traveller!
Kong Lor Cave is nestled within the forests of the Hin Boun mountains. You’ll certainly be impressed by its size, it’s over seven kilometres long! Visitors to the cave can sail through it by private boat, stop in a small village at the other end, then sail back again. We can provide you with a torch as the cave is rather dark – your smartphone won’t do the trick on this occasion! During the trip, you’ll have the opportunity to walk through a small section of rock formations and later, you can paddle in the water when you reach the other side.
The Limestone Forest viewpoint is also well worth a trip if you’re in the area. Made up of limestone pinnacles and towering trees and plants, you’ll be amazed by the incredible scenery across this fantastic landscape. The crevices and cliffs here have become habitats for the huge amount of wildlife that have made this area home. This spot has some interesting historical significance too – it’s been used as a refuge for locals involved in conflicts or war over the centuries.
