Kenting National Park, Taiwan Plan a trip
Located on the southern tip of Taiwan, Kenting National Park is a great destination for nature lovers and film buffs alike. Confused by the latter? Well, the park actually featured in the Taiwanese movie Cape No. 7 (2008) and in Life of Pi (2012). The area has been a firm favourite with both locals and visitors throughout the years, so it’s little wonder that Hollywood eventually came knocking!
The park offers a huge selection of flora and fauna – including 15 species of mammal, 310 types of bird and 59 variations of reptiles and amphibians.
Beach resorts offer an array of water sports activities, including the likes of diving, surfing, jet-skiing and scuba diving. If you simply wish to have a relaxing swim, there are two public beaches where you can dip your toes into the ocean and swim safely. Likewise, there are a few private beaches you can pay to get into if you are looking to avoid the crowds.
A great choice for picnickers, Sheding Nature Park is an ideal place to visit for lazing the days away. Made up of towering hills and expansive grasslands, you’ll be sure to spot some wildlife roaming around whilst you munch on your sandwiches. The rare sika deer and wild boar can often be seen hiding behind the bushes, and you may catch glimpses of a variety of birdlife.
Situated in the Kenting Forest Recreation Area, the Eluanbi Lighthouse is one of Kenting’s most notable sights. Built in the 1880s, this structure is still very much in use today and is worth visiting whilst making your way through the winding paths, leading to a coastal walkway. You’ll be sure to spot locals fishing, whilst getting the opportunity to see some striking viewpoints looking out onto the ocean.
One of the great aspects about Kenting National Park is that it’s an extremely safe place where little crime happens – but you should still be careful with your belongings in busy areas.
Getting around Kenting has never been easier, but one of the most popular options is to take a motorbike around the main routes, meaning you can see a good range of the main sights. Upon arrival at your hotel, you’ll most likely be given a map to make your way around.
