Salt Lake City, USA Plan a trip

A unique destination in every sense of the word, Salt Lake City will take you by surprise – and under its spell.

The capital of Utah is a gateway to a world of stunning US national parks, including Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, Capital Reef, and Bryce Canyon.

It’s famous as a fantastic place for winter sports, a playground of perfect powder for cross country skiers. In fact, it arguably has the best snow on earth. There are 15 ski resorts to choose from here, with one of the most popular the ski hill slopes of the Wasatch Mountains. There are also plenty of outdoor activities to get stuck into, from hiking to mountain biking.

Salt Lake City is also a popular movie filming location, and you’ll soon see why. This surprisingly beautiful city boasts distinctive and striking scenery, surrounded by majestic mountains and breathtaking canyons. And of course, there’s its namesake lake – the Great Salt Lake.

Although it may be known for being the headquarters of the Mormon Church, Salt Lake City is also a hive of local beer brewing activity. You can take a tour of the likes of the Wasatch, Squatters and Uinta breweries, all of which have won prizes at the Great American Beer Festival held every year in Denver.

This is also a place steeped in culture, with a packed calendar of events. One of the most famous is the annual Sundance Film Festival held in January, the largest independent film festival anywhere in the US.

You’ll need plenty of time to see everything the city has to offer, from its lush botanical gardens to its fascinating natural history museum. Stroll the streets and you’ll spot colourful murals on almost every corner, along with beautiful religious architecture thanks to the city’s Mormon culture.

Foodies will spend their days hopping between Salt Lake City’s many top-notch coffee shops, or tucking into delicious American West comfort food in a local hangout. The nightlife is fabulous, as is the local LGBTQ+ scene.
