Victoria, Canada Plan a trip
Visit Canada’s prettiest city and the gem of Vancouver Island, the colourful and unforgettable Victoria.
You’ll find this unique city, the capital of British Colombia, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. This is a lovely place to spend a few days at any time of year, as it boasts warm summers and mild winters.
The first thing that’ll strike you about Victoria is how utterly gorgeous it is, especially in the city’s downtown area. Here you’ll find a colourful display of chocolate-box houses, flower-lined streets and simply stunning architecture. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a quaint English country village.
This is why one of the best things to do here is simply to amble arm in arm, enjoying its charming streets and marvelling at the incredible architecture. Along the way, you’ll discover Canada’s oldest Chinatown, the stately Craigdarroch Castle and the beautiful 55 acres of floral displays at Butchart Gardens.
Victoria is also a hub for creative types, so it’s no surprise that you’ll find fantastic art galleries here – among the best being the Avenue Gallery and the Robert Bateman Centre Gallery on the waterfront.
You simply must swing by Fisherman’s Wharf, a popular and picturesque spot just outside of the city centre, where you’ll find some of the best food in the city. Tuck into incredible fresh-off-the-boat seafood, while marvelling at the delightful floating homes and indulging in a spot of people-watching.
You can even set off for a whale watching tour from here, or hop on the Harbour Ferry to the Inner Harbour area. This is the heart of Victoria, and where most of the city’s best buildings are clustered, including the grand BC Legislature building.
