Vietnam: “The Land of the Blue Dragon” From Top to Tail
This 2 week Vietnam itinerary travels from the far north at Hanoi all the way south to Saigon and the Mekong Delta, combining cities, landscapes and cultural experiences in one varied journey. It’s ideal for travellers looking to understand the country through its history and everyday life.
Moving from northern cities and Halong Bay to imperial Hue, Hoi An and the south, the route reveals how Vietnam’s regions shift in atmosphere and character, creating a journey defined by progression rather than pace.
The itinerary below is shown as an example route. Every journey we create is planned from scratch, and can be adapted — unless you like it exactly as it is.
- Day 1 - Overnight Flight
Your trip begins today as you board your overnight flight to Hanoi!
- Day 2 - Hanoi
Our representative will meet you as you touch down at Noi Bai Airport. They will fill you in with your busy trip ahead as they transfer you to the hotel.
Rest of the day is yours to chill out.
- Day 3 - Hanoi
Kick-off your Vietnam experience with a tour of this crazy, exciting city in style, as you wind your way through the streets on the back of a Vespa scooter and visit the main landmarks.
In the afternoon, you'll watch the 'My Village Show' with some delicious local food, to get a tantalising intro to Vietnamese culture.
- Day 4 - Ninh Binh
Time to see beyond the capital with a scenic overland transfer from Hanoi to the lush countryside of Ninh Binh. Leaving the buzz of the city behind, the landscape gradually opens into rice paddies, limestone karsts and quiet rural villages — a gentle transition into a slower, more atmospheric side of Vietnam.
On arrival, the rest of the evening is yours at leisure. Settle into your hotel, enjoy a relaxed dinner, or simply unwind and take in the peaceful surroundings ahead of the days of exploration to come.
- Day 5 - Ninh Binh
Explore the dramatic landscapes of Ninh Binh on a full-day excursion, beginning with a tranquil sampan boat journey through Tam Coc. Glide past rice paddies and limestone karsts, explore ancient temples and rural viewpoints, and experience the slower rhythm of life in northern Vietnam’s countryside.
- Day 6 - Halong Bay
Enjoy breakfast departing on a journey to the majestic Halong Bay, where you'll board your traditional Junk boat.
Your cruise begins as you explore the mysterious Tien Ong Cave before continuing to the Cua Van area.
- Day 7 - Halong Bay
Rise early for a Tai Chi demonstration on deck before discovering the biggest cave in Halong Bay - Surprise Cave. Then you'll set sail for the Luon Cave and visit the Pearl Farm Village. Hop back on board for a cooking demonstration before bed.
- Day 8 - Hue
Enjoy the last part of the cruise soaking up the rest of Halong Bay as you work your way back to Halong City. You'll Stop-off and have a walk around another local village before transferring to Hanoi Airport for a short flight to Hue.
- Day 9 - Hue
Today you'll explore the incredibly picturesque Tam Giang Lagoon, cross the Thuan An Bridge, visit the Catholic Church in Ha Uc Village and experience Hue's other key historical points of interest.
This evening chill-out in Hue city, it's a pretty laid back place and very walkable for dinner options.
- Day 10 - Hoi An
Chill out in Hue before heading to magical Hoi An. After check in you're free to look around the lovely city, or chill out on the beach right in front of your hotel.
- Day 11 - Hoi An
Unwind and enjoy a free day on the beach in Hoi An.
There's so much to do around here for those with itchy feet. Visit the My Son ruins, hire bikes, go on a boat trip or get a tailored suit made for pittance!
- Day 12 - Hoi An
Today you'll take a leisurely boat ride along the Thu Bon River to Cam Kim Island. Exchange boat for bicycle and start cycling through winding village roads towards the peaceful fishing village of Tra Nhieu.
- Day 13 - Saigon
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Saigon.
On your way to the hotel you'll visit the famous Cu Chi Tunnels - an immense network of underground tunnels that played a key role in the Vietnam War.
- Day 14 - Saigon
Depart Saigon on a drive to Cai Thia in the Tien Giang Province - hop on a bike and enjoy an enchanting cycle along the quiet paths around the village of Hoa Loc.
Then take a cruise to An Binh Island in Vin Long, enjoy some lunch and row through the canals of the Mekong Delta.
- Day 15 - Overnight Flight
Check out of your hotel and then we will transfer you to Ho Chi Minh Airport for your onward flight.
