Camp Kipwe, Damaraland

Deluxe - ££££

Introduction

In Damaraland, there is a valley called Aba Huab, and here you will find one of the most unusual landscapes on earth. Arid desert is broken up by the most fascinating boulders of golden orange. Nested in among those boulders you will find Camp Kipwe, which is in a stunning setting with views that can only be imagined until you see them with your own eyes.

The amazing accommodation, which comprises nine thatched dome bungalows, has been formed to sit as if almost part of the rocks themselves, virtually hidden from the eye. You can’t get much closer to nature than these fantastic bungalows that merge inside and out (quite literally when it comes to the outside bathroom facilities!)

Facilities

While the accommodation may be basic, it is certainly special, and the local area is rich in experiences. An open-top-vehicle tour of the area is a must, as you can experience the stunning African landscape with a knowledgeable and local guide who truly understands the area. Spotting some of the desert elephants should be high on any wish list and something that you will be able to do thanks to your guide.

The area has a strong focus on sustainable eco-tourism, and this adds to the experience of rural African living, with the emphasis on doing as little damage as possible to the natural environment.

Why We Love It

This is simply one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. The complex has been designed to blend in and not stick out, and it is genuinely stunning.
