Great Fish River Lodge, Eastern Cape Game Area

Introduction

Nestled in the centre of the Kwandwe Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape Game Area, which is best known as a home of the ‘big five’, this lodge is surrounded by 22 hectares of unspoiled wilderness and you guessed it – is also positioned next to the 30km-long Great Fish River. This lodge offers first-class game viewing from the comfort of your own luxurious space.

In terms of accommodation, there are nine luxury suites all designed with African-inspired influences; expect carved wood, flamboyant colours and patterns, and glass panels so you can watch the wildlife pass at any time of day.

Scheduled game drives take place at various times throughout the day. Early in the morning and early evening is when you’re most likely to spot wildlife such as the lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo, to name just a few. There are also opportunities to participate in walking safaris and ‘save the rhino’ drives.

Each room features a plunge bath and indoor and outdoor shower facilities. Each suite also has its own private veranda for you to sit and watch the world go by and is equipped with air conditioning.

Should you get peckish, the lodge has a selection of dining areas which offer delightful dishes throughout the day. Best-known for its African-inspired cuisine, you may opt to dine in the main candlelit dining room or outdoors amongst nature at the Boma.

In the communal guest areas, you’ll find a large viewing deck which gives you the best opportunity to spot animals roaming freely and there’s a swimming pool where guests can take a refreshing dip.
